Team CEO Eventing offers a unique opportunity for talented, ambitious, hardworking equestrians to develop their eventing experitise in our Working Student Program. We are a very actively competing eventing facility in Lexington KY, and our head trainer Megan Moore competes actively at the Advanced level. We also specialize in bringing along and developing talented young event horses for future competition at the highest level of our sport. The working students get the opportunity to ride and possibly compete some very, very special young horses. The program is designed for riders who want to immerse themselves in eventing, and who are already established riders who would like to hone their eventing skills.

Who can apply?
Our program is designed for mature, independent students who are enthusiastic and can thrive under limited adult supervision. Working students must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have current medical insurance, and commit to 10-12 months with Team CEO. Applicants must be comfortable riding and schooling young horses, and must have a good basis for basic horse knowledge and care. They must have dressage skills to put a horse on the bit, though show experience is not necessary. In addition, they must be able to successfully school around a 2' course of show jumps. Cross country experience is not necessary, and a background in dressage or hunters or jumpers is fine. The most important attribute of any working student is attitude... Honesty, loyalty, compassion, hard work, humility, a passion for horses, and a true interest in learning are absolutely critical attributes for WS in our program. We become family with each and every WS we hire, so it is crucial that applicants have a positive, upbeat personality and are genuinely interested in learning more about eventing. We're trying to teach you more about our beloved sport, so an interest in learning and an ability to listen is crucial.
What does the position entail?
At Team CEO Eventing, working students
Working students ride 2-3 horses on a typical day, on some days up to 6 horses in a day. Working students work 6 days a week on the farm and at competitions to experience every facet of the equestrian lifestyle. Working studetns may spend their day feeding, mucking, grooming, riding their own and farm horses, doing farm work, grooming at shows, and competing. In addition, we frequently have the opportunity to travel to racetracks, build XC jumps, travel to the nation's top competitions, and participate in many special events. Lexington is home to the only CCI**** in the US!
What will I need to bring?
Working students may bring a horse, or use one of ours. The apartment is furnished, with bed, desk, and dresser in each room. Linens and pillows are provided. When committing to a 10-12 month program, we include full care board for one horse. You will want to bring your own towels, as well as your own toiletries. Working students are responsible for their own food. They also need to carry their own health insurance. If you are hired, bring show clothes and schooling clothes... You'll spend a LOT of time in the saddle, and we wear through many pairs of breeches! :) Good shoes are a wonderful thing to have, as most of the girls work all day in their paddock boots. A good helmet and a safe cross country vest are an absolute must.
How does the working student program work?
Housing in the apartment with utilities (electric, water, wireless internet). Working students may bring one horse and the position includes full care board. Students receive lessons each week, coaching at competitions, coursewalks, trailering to shows as available, and lots of riding opportunities. Students who complete their full term program (10 mos to 1 year) receive excellent references to future employers, the opportunity of a lifetime, memories you'll never forget, and the possibility of earning college credit for the internship. This is the ultimate way to emerge yourself fully into the sport of eventing.
How do I become a working student?
Step 1) Fill out an application. Step 2) Send riding photos. Step 3) Come for an interview.
First, please Complete The Application and email it to info@teamceoeventing.com. Second, include a photo of you riding in the email. Third, we'll invite riders back to interview for periods of 3-5 days. (The horses all have Mondays off, so it's best to schedule around this day, though flying in or out on this day is absolutely fine.) Applicants will jump straight into working student life, living, eating, riding, and learning right alongside the current WS. They stay in the WS apartment during this time. We are happy to pick applicants up from the Bluegrass Regional Airport (Lexington KY) for this stay. You'll want to bring riding clothes, helmet, & boots when you come for an interview. The house is furnished, but you'll want to bring a towel and toiletries with you when you come.
Where do I live?
Working students live in an apartment in the barn, completed in September 2008. The apartment has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with views of the boarder's paddocks. It has three nice sized bedrooms with oversized closets, two bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, and living room. Sorry, we do not allow pets, as there are already plenty of animals on the farm! The entire farm is a non-smoking environment for saefty purposes. The apartment is connected to the Boarder/Working Student barn, so you get to sleep and live just feet away from your horse (with beautiful views of the paddocks!).
Will I get to compete?
Oh yeah! That is a big part of why you're here! Your first job is to learn everything you can while you're here... As you master that information, we'd love to invite you to compete to demonstrate everything that you've learned. We are a big believer in being very well prepared for your events, and moving up only as you and your horse are ready. We're at competitions or clinics about 46 weekends out of the year. Working students are encouraged to compete, and have the opportunity to compete their own horses about once a month. Team CEO hosts 2-4 competitions a year, and WS are actively competing in those each time 'round. There's plenty of opportunities to learn and compete!
When is the next opening in the program?
We are especially seeking positive, enthusiastic, giddy individuals with endless enthusiasm and energy who are eager to learn! We have openings available immediately.
