3/3 Pine Top HT Dressage & Stadium
photo

What a gorgeous day we had in Thomson GA!  It is sunny and warm, and makes the 10hr drive down really worth it.  Nemo is becoming such a dressage pony.  I had the fantastic luck of having a bug fly in my eye coming down centerline!  That was really fun.  So we performed 3/4 of our dressage test with one eye open and one eye closed, which I'm sure was highly impressive to the dressage judge!  Other than one flying change, he was a really good boy, and scored a 41.0 in a field full of four star horses.  The show jumping was rather massive, but Nemo jumped double clean in his first OI stadium!  (Especially when he elected to trot one of the Intermediate oxers! Six strides away I thought, "Oooh, I see the perfect distance!"  One stride away, Nemo decided to fix that for me, so he trotted it!  What a talented jumper he is... He didn't touch it!)   I also got the chance to bring Hopper and ride him in the warmups... What a fantastic talent he's going to be!  I'm really excited about him. More tomorrow!

WOW, what a superstar! Though he's 6yo by the USEA standards, Nemo is only 5 1/2 by his birthday... And yet he ran around his first Intermediate with 0/0 in showjumping and 0/14.8 in Cross Country!!!!

There were lots of problems out there... Three waters, including a bounce into water. He was AMAZING! He completely blew the course away! (And yes, he opted to TROT a BIG intermediate table!!)

Nemo finished in the ribbons in 8th place at his first OI!! Amy Tryon finished 6th on Le Samurai (four star horse & rider), then Leigh Mesher & My Beau (four star horse), and then Nemo! He was only 0.2 behind My Beau and only 0.4 behind Le Samurai... And these two are two of the most experience advanced horses in the country, and twice his age. I'm SOOOOOOO proud of him! He hung with the best of the best, and I even had interest in selling him this weekend... But that won't be happening!!

Nemo was so brave... I'm so excited for his future!

That's so fantastic! I'm so excited for the both of you and not surprised at all that Nemo blew away most the field. Congratulations, Megan! Safe trip home.

Also, I'd like to compliment Megan on an outstanding ride this weekend. It's really tough stepping up the plate, on a green offtrack thoroughbred, in a class with Phillip Dutton, Amy Tryon, etc., and against big dollar, experienced 4 star horses like Le Samurai and My Beau with all of the big names from the USEA watching. I've been observing her rides for close to 20 years, and this weekend was right at or near the top performance of her career. When he was nervous and green in dressage, she adjusted to show him to his best (and was recognized for it by the judge's comments). When he was unsure in stadium, she let him look and take a trot step or two -- to an INTERMEDIATE jump -- and then sent him strongly forward to clear a triple that most people were pulling the final element on. She was the only rider in stadium to NOT CARRY A WHIP! And then to run clean on an XC course just INVITING runouts, with lots of corners, three water complexes, and a coffin with 4 elements (two of which were trakehners with water in the ditches) was awesome -- at a pace which was within a second (one faster, one slower) than the 4* horses! She set Nemo up to succeed, and then helped him perform at his best. When I commented to Dr. Mike during warmup about how happy Nemo was, how he loved his job, he commented "That's because omebody's doing a good job with his training!" I agree -- congratulations, an outstanding and very professional weekend.
